Here is the one, the original, The Snowman by Modnoc. Released for the Atari ST in 1987 (1 Meg required).
I can remember getting this demo. We got it on a disk from the Current Notes (or WAACE) software library. I can remember watching it in awe. Home computers could barely do samples and still captures at the time. Now, almost any smart phone could reproduce this demo, but in the late 1980s, taking the stills, capturing the audio, writing the software, and then squeezing it all on a 3.5 inch floppy, that was a challenge.
It must be remarked, what this demo does, and does extremely well, is with the stills that are captured, and the sample from the melody of 'Walking On the Air,' this demo captures the overall spirit and heart of the 1982 cartoon original. I think it captures decently well the emotional ride of the story. Simplicity on full display!
For the rest of Christmas Eve, various versions and a few ports of The Snowman will be posted.
".... I'm holding very tight .... I'm riding in the midnight blue .... I'm finding I can fly so high above with you ...."
Enjoy. I certainly enjoyed putting these all together.
