Star Wars - Atari ST [045] PlayThru

A long time ago in an arcade far, far away, well... only 37 years ago in 1983, and it would have been a local arcade; but anyway, the 70's smash Sci Fi movie had its arcade video game debut as a vector graphics machine from Atari Games.

Tetris (MirrorSoft) - Atari ST [043] Short PlayThru

Tetris, one of the earliest puzzle games to become popular, was made in the USSR in 1984 by Alexey Pajitnov.  It is well known that the NES version of Tetris had a legal fight licensing the game that excluded Tengen from distributing a port they programmed, but the ST also had its own issue.

Joust - Atari ST [042] Short PlayThru

Joust, the Williams arcade classic, was originally released on July 16, 1982. This game was ported to the Atari ST and released by Atari Inc. themselves!

Moon Patrol - Atari ST [041] Short PlayThru

Here is another Williams title that was ported to the ST; this time is it Moon Patrol.  This title was originally created by Irem of R-Type fame, and was licensed for US distribution by Williams as opposed to some of the other Williams titles to appear on the ST.

Rockford - Atari ST [040] Short PlayThru

Rockford is a port of an arcade game by the same name, which was a port of the Atari 8-bit original title Boulder Dash.  The original arcade game ran on modified Amiga hardware, and I believe it is presently lost, or undumped.

Robotron 2084 - Atari ST [039] Short PlayThru

This will make the third arcade port post in a row! Here is Williams Robotron 2084, originally released in the arcades in 1982, and published by Atari for the ST in 1987.

Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back - Atari ST [038] Short PlayThru

A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away...  The Empire Strikes Back, the sequel to the Star Wars arcade game released in 1982, was released to arcades in March of 1985.  This game is a vector graphics title like its predecessor, and remains that way for the port to the Atari ST.

Klax - Atari ST [037] Short PlayThru

Here is the puzzler Klax, originally an arcade game released by Atari Games on June 4, 1990; the game was later ported to the Atari ST by Tengen/Domark.

Gauntlet - Arcade [007] Shortplay PlayThru Levels 1-26

Here is a playthru of an emulation of the arcade's original quarter eater: Gauntlet.  Four player co-operative simultaneous gameplay, with limited health, and an easy player opt-in design made this game a favorite in arcades at release.  I can remember line ups at this machine in the local Time Warp arcade.

Astaroth - Atari ST [031] ShortPlay

I have wanted to capture Astaroth for a while.  I have REALLY wanted to do a complete playthrough of the game, but I believe that is a 4 hour + endeavor.  So, here is a short play of the game.

Shanghai - Atari ST [019] PlayThru

This title is definitely a pass.  The rules for the game are fine, but there is no music.  It was a waste of money when we got it new back in the 80s!

Shanghai PSG - Sega Master System [005] PlayThru

Title Screen
As I mentioned in the FM sound capture of this game, this game is the reason I do not have my original Sega Master System model 1, which is still sitting hooked up to a TV at my parents' house.

Shanghai FM - Sega Master System [004] PlayThru

Title Screen

This game is the reason I do not have my original Sega Master System model 1, which is still sitting hooked up to a TV at my parents' house.  I did manage to claim my favorite joystick from the system though, the Epyx 500XJ for the SMS, and a few copies of this game.

Gauntlet - Atari ST [002] Shortplay PlayThru Levels 1-26

Title Screen
NOTE: A trainer was used for making this capture.

Gauntlet is a port of the Atari Games 1985 arcade title, which was ported to many other systems.

I remember when Gauntlet was new, and a local Time Out arcade had the cabinet.  Similar to Street Fighter 2 a few years later, people were lined up to feed quarters into the machine, to get their 2000 health.  Back then, the Wizard was not very popular, since you could only have 1 of each class in the original game, so typically that controller on the arcade cabinet was empty.
