Altered Beast - Arcade [005] PlayThru

The arcade original of this game is from 1988.  I always thought this conversion  was an odd choice for the pack in title for the launch of the Sega Genesis.

NOTE: A trainer was used for making this capture.

In its simplest form, Altered Beast is a side scroller beat 'em up, but the power up system, which involves morphing into the various beasts in the different stages, adds a different play element.  Each beast has different powers as well.

To finish each stage, the player is required to power all the way up, otherwise the level just keeps scrolling around.  Since I have never really played this title with two players, I am unsure if this requirement is there in two player mode.

The game is a decent arcade title on its own, with good music, effects, and even decent digitized sounds.  While the game does not offer too much in variety of play, it is still a title to check out every once in a while.
