Astaroth - Atari ST [031] ShortPlay

I have wanted to capture Astaroth for a while.  I have REALLY wanted to do a complete playthrough of the game, but I believe that is a 4 hour + endeavor.  So, here is a short play of the game.

Astaroth is a game that I had from back in the day, one gotten from the US Atari retailers.  From what I was told, they would just buy a large stock of games from the UK, not really knowing what they would get, and then sell them.  I am not quite sure how I picked up Astaroth, because I am pretty sure I rarely saw early Hewson ST titles in the US.  But, I found I had this game.

Two things I liked about the game, the music and the main characer's name.  There are great tunes from Mad Max as the soundtrack; the music fits in very well.  And, the main character's name is Ozymandias, how cool is that!

Astaroth is a side scrolling room based platform game.  The basic goal of the game is to collect all of the mind powers scattered throughout the catacombs of Astaroth's domain.  Once all of the powers have been collected, the player can battle Astaroth to finish the game.  I believe there are just north of 250 rooms to explore in the game, and mapping is required!

One shining star here, the player can save and load games!

The art used for the game reminds me of art inspired by H.R. Giger.

I can not say I would recommend this game for everyone; it is certainly a different game.  I like the art, and the tunes, and for whatever reason, I want to take up the challenge someday to see the end.

Capture info -

This video was captured on January 30, 2019.

Game was played on an Atari 1040 STf, TOS 1.4, 1MB, equipped with a CosmosEX from Jookie.
A Best Electronics ST Monitor to VGA cable was used, connected to an OSSC 1.6 (processing the video in Line4x mode), with the output being captured by a Startech USB3HDCAP.
