Great Soccer US - Sega Master System [006] PlayThru

Title Screen
'Great Soccer' is known as 'World Soccer' in Europe and Japan, as there was an earlier 'Great Soccer' released in those regions for the Master System that is a totally different game.

Included here is a playthru of a game or match I won, and a penalty shootout I lost.  Also, all of the national anthems from the eight included countries are captured, with two from the match, two from the shootout, and the last four added at the end of the capture.

Team Selection Screen

I can not tell you the attraction, but I always enjoyed playing this game over the other sports titles I had on the Master System.  Maybe the primary reason was that I was able to actually beat the computer player?

Gameplay
Now, at this point, the only ball sports game I had played were basically Touchdown Football and One on One from EA, Hardball by Accolade, and TV Sports Football.  I was not really very good at any of those titles.  Racing titles?  Lets toss in Pitstop II and Pole Position on the Atari 800.  Olympic type games?  Track and Field, Summer Games, Winter Games, and California Games, all of which I did eventually became OK at playing.  California Games and Summer Games will most likely show up on this channel at some point.
Penalty Kicks

I believe I have seen people complain about the controls, mainly because the game switches the player on screen to the player that is closest to the ball, so who you are controlling on screen swaps alot.  Does not bother me, but I guess I am just used to that.

Anyway, while I enjoy this game, I think it would be a curiousity these days, and would not hold too much attention past one playthru.  Also, at least in the US, it is a very common and inexpensive title.

Capture info -

This gameplay was captured on March 24, 2018.

Game was played on a Sega Master System Model 1 equipped with a FM Expansion Board from Tim Worthington
A HD Retrovision Component cable was used, connected to an OSSC 1.6 (processing the video in Line4x mode), with the output being captured by a Startech USB3HDCAP.

Video was edited with Shotcut.
