Here is Golden Axe, an early release on the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive. As mentioned in the arcade capture of the same game, I currently am planning on limiting Sega Genesis captures, for now, to use for comparisons.
I remember when this game was released on the Genesis. I played the game not too long after playing the game in the arcade, and was impressed.
I must say I am still relatively impressed. While I plan to do a comparison between this one, the arcade, Master System, and Atari ST versions, I can say this release might be the least faithful port from the arcade.
Why is that? The game is longer, Sega has added additional stages. Also, the arcade ending is not used, unlike the other two ports.
Although, control is great. The standard three button Genesis controller is perfect for the game, with each of the ABC buttons being well used. The graphics are good, with nice full screen usage. And the sound works well.
Definitely a good game that has aged well, in my opinion.
