R-Type FM - Sega Master System [021] PlayThru

R-Type, for the Master System, was a newer Ebay aquisition.  I did not have this version back in the day. I had the Atari ST disks of this game though.  So, this play through is my first time in either the FM version or the PSG version.

NOTE: A trainer was used for making this capture.

The game looks really nice.  Alot of work was put into the art, and the music sounds real good as well.  Control is snappy. The FM sound is good.  This feels like a good overall game, a port by Sega of the Irem released arcade game.

Problem?  I think the SMS might be getting pushed to its limits. Flicker and slowdown are there; slowdown mainly occurs when the screen fills with enemies.  I would not say this affects the gameplay too much, but this is noticable.

And, I am unsure about the ending for the arcade. You reach the end, get a blurb and then restart.

Definitely a nice title on the Sega, I think it is a worthy pickup for any shooter fan on the SMS.

Capture info -

This gameplay was captured on January 27, 2019.

Game was played on a Sega Genesis Model 1.
A HD Retrovision Component cable was used, connected to an OSSC 1.6 (processing the video in Line4x mode), with the output being captured by a Startech USB3HDCAP.

Video was edited with Shotcut.
